Pumpkin Spice

Price range: $10.00 through $25.00

Made with Cape Ann Sea Salt , granulated maple syrup, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and cloves

  • Roasted butternut or acorn squash — probably one of the best savory applications. Finish with butter and Pumpkin Spice Sea Salt.
  • Roasted sweet potatoes — especially wedges or mashed sweet potatoes with butter.
  • Pork tenderloin or pork chops — maple, cinnamon, ginger and clove all work beautifully with pork. Use lightly as a finishing salt.
  • Roasted carrots — olive oil or butter, then finish with the salt.
  • Baked brie — top warm brie with apples or pears, walnuts/pecans and a light sprinkle.
  • Apple slices — especially Honeycrisp apples with sharp cheddar.
  • Popcorn — buttered popcorn with Pumpkin Spice Sea Salt could be an easy farmers-market sampling idea.
  • French toast — sprinkle over buttered French toast instead of ordinary salt.
  • Pancakes & waffles — particularly with maple syrup and butter.
  • Oatmeal — great with apples, pecans and maple syrup.
  • Yogurt or granola bowls — just a small finishing pinch.
  • Pumpkin bread, banana bread or muffins — sprinkled on top before or after baking.
  • Chocolate brownies — the salt/maple/spice combination would be excellent against dark chocolate.
  • Chocolate chip cookies — use as a finishing salt while they’re still warm.
  • Caramel or salted caramel desserts — an obvious pairing, but a very good one.
  • Vanilla ice cream — vanilla ice cream + warm caramel + Pumpkin Spice Sea Salt.
  • Apple pie or apple crisp — finish the crust/topping with a small amount.
  • Pumpkin pie or cheesecake — especially good on whipped cream.
  • Maple-glazed nuts — pecans and walnuts would be ideal.
  • Coffee, lattes and hot chocolate — a tiny sprinkle over whipped cream or foam.
  • Cocktail rims — especially an apple cider bourbon cocktail, maple Old Fashioned, or pumpkin espresso martini.

Maple Apple Baked Brie with Pumpkin Spice Sea Salt

Serves 6–8

Ingredients

  • 1 wheel Brie, about 8 oz.
  • 1 crisp apple, such as Honeycrisp or Pink Lady, thinly sliced or diced
  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons chopped pecans
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • ½ teaspoon Pumpkin Spice Sea Salt, plus a little more for finishing
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • Crackers, sliced baguette, or apple slices for serving

Directions

  1. Heat the oven to 350°F. Place the Brie in a small oven-safe dish or on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  2. Make the maple apples. Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the apple and cook for 2–3 minutes, just until it begins to soften.
  3. Add the maple syrup and lemon juice. Cook another 1–2 minutes until the apples are glossy and the maple syrup has thickened slightly. Remove from the heat and stir in ½ teaspoon Pumpkin Spice Sea Salt.
  4. Top the Brie with the warm maple apples and sprinkle with the chopped pecans.
  5. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until the Brie is soft and warm in the center but hasn’t completely collapsed.
  6. Drizzle with any maple mixture remaining in the skillet and finish with a very light pinch of Pumpkin Spice Sea Salt over the top.

Serve immediately with toasted baguette, crisp crackers, and fresh apple slices.

For an especially pretty presentation: keep some of the apple slices intact rather than dicing everything, fan them over the Brie, and scatter the pecans sparingly. It will feel much more elegant and less like a heavy baked-Brie topping.

The salty maple-spice finish against the creamy Brie is what makes this work—the salt keeps the maple and apple from becoming overly sweet.
