Coffee Sea Salt

Bold, savory, and unexpectedly versatile, our Coffee Sea Salt combines Cape Ann Sea Salt with rich coffee for a deep, roasty flavor that adds complexity without overwhelming the dish. The coffee brings subtle bitterness and toasted notes that pair especially well with grilled and roasted foods—and a touch of salt makes chocolate and caramel flavors even more irresistible.

Suggested Uses: Rub onto steak, pork, lamb, or burgers before grilling • Sprinkle over roasted root vegetables or sweet potatoes • Add to barbecue rubs • Finish dark chocolate brownies, cookies, or chocolate cake • Sprinkle over caramel or vanilla ice cream • Add a pinch to hot cocoa or a mocha

Description

Coffee Sea Salt Crusted Steak with Garlic Butter

Serves 2

Ingredients

  • 2 ribeye or New York strip steaks, about 1–1½ inches thick
  • 1½ teaspoons Cape Ann Sea Salt Co. Coffee Sea Salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 garlic cloves, lightly crushed
  • 2 sprigs fresh thyme
  • Freshly ground black pepper, optional

Directions

  1. Remove the steaks from the refrigerator about 30 minutes before cooking. Pat very dry with paper towels.
  2. Rub both sides lightly with olive oil, then season evenly with Coffee Sea Salt. Add a little black pepper if desired.
  3. Heat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat until very hot. Add the steaks and sear without moving for 3–4 minutes.
  4. Flip and cook for another 2–3 minutes. Reduce the heat slightly and add the butter, garlic, and thyme.
  5. As the butter melts, tilt the pan and spoon the garlic-thyme butter over the steaks repeatedly until they reach your preferred doneness. For medium-rare, aim for about 130–135°F after resting.
  6. Transfer to a cutting board and rest for 5–10 minutes. Slice against the grain and finish with a very light sprinkle of Coffee Sea Salt just before serving.

Serving suggestion: Serve with crispy roasted potatoes or a silky potato purée and simply dressed greens. The roasted coffee notes complement the deeply browned steak while the sea salt sharpens all those rich, savory flavors.

Coffee Sea Salt Espresso Martini

Makes 2 cocktails

Ingredients

  • 4 oz vodka
  • 2 oz freshly brewed espresso, cooled
  • 2 oz coffee liqueur
  • ½–1 oz simple syrup, to taste
  • Cape Ann Sea Salt Co. Coffee Sea Salt, for the rim
  • A little simple syrup, for rimming
  • 6 coffee beans, for garnish

Directions

  1. Pour a small amount of simple syrup onto one plate and Coffee Sea Salt onto another. Lightly dip half the rim of each chilled martini or coupe glass into the syrup, then into the Coffee Sea Salt. A half-rim gives you the salty-coffee contrast without overpowering every sip.
  2. Fill a cocktail shaker generously with ice. Add vodka, espresso, coffee liqueur and simple syrup.
  3. Shake vigorously for 15–20 seconds to create that signature thick, creamy espresso foam.
  4. Double-strain into the prepared glasses.
  5. Garnish each cocktail with three coffee beans.

Why Coffee Sea Salt works: The savory salt and roasted coffee notes cut through the sweetness of the coffee liqueur while amplifying the espresso, making the cocktail taste richer and more balanced.
